 ' The MAGUSTO/MAGOSTO/MAGUESTU is a popular pagan festival celebrated across Gallaécia (Galicia, Northern Portugal, Léon and Asturias) from (1-11) November , which celebrates the arrival of the cold days of winter.It´s origins are in an ancient Celtic ritual festival of the dead.
Groups of friends and families come together around a campfire, where they roast chestnuts or acorns to eat, drink up the jeropiga, vinho de pé or vinho novo, make up games, people paint themselves with ashes and sing traditional songs accompanied by bagpipes. A the end of the celebrations, people jump over the campfire hoping for good luck for the new year.
In some villages, it is still a costumary at midnight to prepare a feast of chestnuts for the dead to "eat". '

' O MAGUSTO/MAGOSTO é uma festa popular pagã celebrada por toda a Gallaécia (Galiza, Norte de Portugal, Llíon e Asturies) de 1 a dia 11 de Novembro, onde se comemora a chegada dos frios. É o vestígio de uma antiga tradição Celta que consiste em honrar os mortos.
Grupos de amigos e famílias juntam-se à volta de uma fogueira onde se assam castanhas ou bolotas para comer, bebe-se a jeropiga, água-pé ou vinho novo, fazem-se brincadeiras, as pessoas pintam-se com as cinzas e cantam-se cantigas tradicionais acompanhadas pelo som das Gaitas. No final das celebrações é costume saltar por cima da fogueira, para que o novo ano venha carregado de boa sorte.
Em algumas aldeias ainda se cumpre a tradição de preparar, à meia-noite, uma mesa com castanhas para os mortos da família irem comer; ninguém mais tocava nas castanhas porque se dizia que estavam “babadas dos defuntos”. '
